Summary

The Denver City Council met on Monday, June 8, 2026, with 10 members present. The council approved an amended intergovernmental agreement with the Denver Rescue Mission for family shelter at The Crossing, a block of settlement resolutions totaling roughly $2.865 million in police-related cases, and a bill donating retired police horse Maverick to an equine therapy nonprofit. Members passed a bill amending the municipal code on lobbyist regulation after adopting an amendment adding mayor-, auditor-, and clerk-appointed officials to the definition of covered official, and approved a bill requiring businesses to comply with federal, state, and local laws. The council also passed two rezoning bills: one for 17600 E. 56th Avenue / 4991 Telluride Street in Gateway/Green Valley Ranch, and one rezoning 4901 E. Belleview Avenue in the Hampden South/Denver Tech Center area from B-8 to a mixed-use suburban district (S-MX-8), which Council Member Romero Campbell voiced support for after questions about tree preservation and community outreach. The meeting included two required public hearings on the rezonings.

10:05 resolution approving a

10:06 proposed for the amended

10:08 amended Tory agreement between

10:08 the city and county of Denver

10:11 to support additional family

10:12 shelters at the crossing in

10:16 can Councilmember. Luis,

10:17 please go ahead with your

10:19 comments on council

10:23 resolutions. 0, 7, 0, but

10:25 actually just 60 I was curious

10:29 in the expansion is actual

10:29 coverage within the shell

10:32 order to be able to bring

10:32 those new units about Ward

10:35 that they were being utilized

10:36 for a different reason. And

10:36 now they're just being

10:39 transferred to

10:49 It comes too often the mayor's

10:50 checking to make sure that

10:50 there's someone online answer

10:51 the question. Comey one

10:54 moment.

11:01 Well, we're waiting for them

11:03 to come on line. I'd like

11:04 welcome councilmember toward

11:06 to that meeting.

11:56 It's one of those is one those

11:56 pauses river letting the time

12:03 said. And the online. All

12:05 your hand and deal with and

12:05 Kyle. Can you please raise

12:08 they will promote you.

12:16 Woolley Kyle. Italy's. And

12:17 like a Monday report back in

12:19 olden

12:30 Issued there. Okay, great. I'm

12:32 sorry. And can I was almost

12:38 Newark airport to for me. So

12:39 this is regarding my that

12:42 Denver rescue mission. And it

12:44 says that you all adding more

12:46 units, which is the reason for

12:47 the expansion of the contract

12:50 I was curious. It. If this is

12:51 adding more units in terms of

12:52 like a construction project,

12:55 adding Ewing unit or if this

12:56 is just space that was being

12:58 used differently. That is now

13:01 going to be used order to have

13:07 it said expansion. Yes, it

13:08 It's not a construction

13:10 project they're absorbing of

13:12 the families that closed from

13:14 the Salvation Army Lamberth.

13:17 Closure they're absorbing

13:19 those families into space

13:20 exists Denver Rescue mission

13:22 at the Do you know what the

13:24 capacity is? Still a cow, how

13:30 much they can expand. Yeah, I

13:31 know that the total number of

13:32 units that they have now will

13:35 be states 30. That's correct.

13:38 But I'm curious is what? The

13:41 capacity that they have? The

13:42 aunt could expand to 40 year

13:46 to 50 or to 60. Great

13:49 question. I don't believe they

13:49 have any additional capacity

13:51 beyond those 30 U.S. You don't

13:56 they do. Not. Is ok? Thank

13:56 That's all good things

14:05 falling. Thanks it thank MADAM

14:05 Secretary. Please put item on

14:11 our screens. In the following

14:13 13 resolutions authorizing

14:16 expenditures for in a block

14:52 series 26, 0, 8, 1, 5 through

14:54 0, 8, 2, 7, Thank So after

14:57 consistent theme that I'm a

14:58 see it as my responsibility to

15:00 ensure that the public is

15:01 aware of every tax dollar

15:02 being approved as an

15:03 expenditure in payment fines

15:05 for a settlement. The city and

15:07 county of Mathis is tracking

15:08 every dollar. My department

15:09 has a running total with the

15:12 approval of these 3.13 items.

15:15 Tonight, the city welcomes

15:16 settlements totaling totaling

15:20 totaling 2 million, $865,000

15:20 to settle cases brought

15:22 against the Denver Police

15:24 Department. The approval of

15:26 these items tonight brings the

15:28 2026 total for taxpayer

15:33 dollars and city settlement to

15:34 3 million, 867,000 dollars.

15:35 This funding is drawn from a

15:38 liability claims pool of money

15:39 in order to pay the claims.

15:41 Tonight, we have had to make a

15:42 3 million dollar rescission

15:45 that comes from the city's

15:46 general contingency and does

15:49 not come from a b to specific

15:50 budget. Must therefore pay

15:51 extra attention in this

15:53 budget. Budget environment

15:54 that we are watching out for

15:54 how the city spends our money

15:56 and that we are making

15:56 decisions for the future with

16:00 this knowledge. Thank If

16:00 secretary pleased that the

16:31 thought of doing a

16:31 proclamation from going to be

16:33 hard to bring the horse into

16:34 the room I just wanted to make

16:36 note of the faithful service

16:39 to the Mavericks given to

16:41 people Denver, what a

16:43 beautiful animal they board

16:43 forces of the stables in the

16:46 district down more and more
