Summary

The council meeting opened with announcements on gun violence in District 9, the Asia Center/District 7 demolition concerns, community events, and a proclamation honoring the Colorado Spartans arena football team. The council adopted a block of resolutions, including an HIV/AIDS services grant agreement, an $80,000 liability settlement with Denver Police, and a Rocky Mountain Arsenal natural-resources grant for naturalizing 56th Avenue, and passed a rezoning for 4411 North (?) Street in Berkeley. The main item was a public hearing on Council Resolution 26-0471, a three-year, $90,000 use agreement letting the Denver Dream Center occupy the former Globeville ("Lobo") Recreation Center in District 9. Council members and numerous Globeville residents criticized Denver Parks and Recreation for running the RFP without community engagement; DPR officials acknowledged the mistake. The resolution failed on the council's vote.

7:24 local sought out specifically

7:52 yourselves over 50 local

7:52 vendors. And we'll see you

7:59 there. Thank Council

8:03 forgetting which we were

8:04 cameras last week and the week

8:08 But I wanted to congratulate

8:10 council PRESIDENT Your of the

8:11 North High School alumni. I

8:18 know we forgot and high school

8:21 Force Award at the at the

8:22 Alumni High School alumni You

8:23 know, the alumni Association

8:27 North High School gives out

8:27 millions of dollars of

8:29 scholarships every year to

8:31 students at North High School.

8:32 It's really amazing. I think

8:34 they said they have around

8:35 almost 3 million dollars right

8:35 now in their coffers for her

8:42 to give out for scholarship.

8:43 Really it's a good

8:44 organization and they continue

8:46 to support the High school

8:47 community and the broader

8:49 North Denver community and the

8:50 award was was for that. It

8:51 wasn't just about the school,

8:53 but it was about the greater

8:59 and northwest number

9:00 community, councilmember

9:05 husband. Also wanted to that

9:09 Sunday, APRIL at approximately

9:13 There was a in Green Valley

9:16 Ranch that resulted a homicide

9:18 the family police are looking

9:21 for any leads that lead to

9:26 arrests and justice for Diane

9:32 Carter her gun violence

9:33 throughout the city is

9:35 definitely impacting every

9:37 part of the city. And I think

9:38 it's important that we

9:42 continue to speak out on this.

9:45 Encourage folks to talk to

9:47 their folks. You know, if you

9:49 have guns in your make sure

9:50 you have gun locks, make sure

9:53 that you're locking them up.

9:54 Make sure that you're not

9:57 leaving them in your vehicle

9:59 overnight because that's the

10:00 only way you think it's safe

10:02 reach Reach out to a council

10:05 office. We're going to for you

10:07 to dpd. We want you to be able

10:09 to lock up your weapons safely

10:10 so that they don't get into

10:13 the wrong hands. And then and

10:16 as we approach warmer weather,

10:20 I encourage constituents to be

10:23 very Mayor Johnson, this is

10:24 Mayor Johnston's job to make

10:27 sure that we have appropriate

10:28 funding for parks and rec

10:30 programs for support programs

10:33 for science projects, tough

10:35 nonprofits that our community

10:36 lead and community-based so

10:40 that there is a bill to

10:44 interest to make sure that we

10:45 can keep everybody in our city

10:48 safe, especially as we're this

10:51 uptick in violence. And if you

10:54 see something, say something,

10:56 we need everybody be helping

10:59 us make sure that our city is

11:01 safe and you fuel that you

11:03 think is too dark or section

11:06 of your neighborhood with

11:08 public transit reach again to

11:09 your council person so that

11:11 they can work with the proper

11:13 and entities to lighten up

11:14 those places. I think there's

11:17 a false narrative that is

11:20 being perpetuated across our

11:22 city. That believes that

11:23 survey the only thing that

11:26 will keep us safe, that it's

11:27 not true that this falls.

11:32 Police are reactive using

11:33 programs, mentoring programs

11:36 all over other programs for

11:38 pro in helping families

11:40 helping others get access to

11:43 resources. And I don't want

11:45 the public to thing that the

11:45 police are always going to

11:48 keep you safe and we and

11:49 community need to keep others

11:52 safe. And so just wanted to

11:54 make sure that being brought

11:55 forward, knowing that people

11:57 are worried, rightly so. But

12:01 that you have more power in

12:02 your community if you

12:04 something to help out and so

12:06 wanted to inspire folks to do

12:09 that as Thank you, council

12:13 PRESIDENT, come I think

12:15 everyone who had the

12:16 opportunity to come to one of

12:18 3 meetings COUNCILMAN Gonzalez

12:19 years myself council member

12:20 Pierre hosted regarding

12:23 municipal sentencing something

12:25 for the discussion. It was

12:26 deeply appreciated. And the

12:30 who the opportunity to attend

12:33 our community committee showed

12:35 up to my staff they just to

12:36 his work and his leadership in

13:14 announcements in the queue. If
