Council committees work through Election Day: what's up Tuesday and Wednesday

Six Council committees meet Nov. 3 and 4, with the 2027 Long Bill, a Denver Health agreement, the contracting reform bill and an $84 million airport restroom contract among the items. Here is the schedule and what each committee is taking up.

Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Election Day in Denver, but City Council committees still meet. Six are scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the city's meeting calendar, and several items are the last committee step before full Council votes later in November.

Why it matters: committee is where Council members ask most of their questions about a contract or bill. After that, most items move to the full Council as part of a single block vote.

All meetings are in the City and County Building, 1437 Bannock St., mostly in Room 391.

Tuesday, Nov. 3

Finance and Business, 10:30 a.m. (agenda)

  • The 2027 Long Bill, 26-1638, and its companion bills. See our stories on the Long Bill and on the pandemic-relief interest and other companion bills.
  • A new Denver Peace Officer Training and Support Fund for state Proposition 130 money, 26-1650. Our story.
  • New: three tree-buying contracts with SuperTrees Colorado, Little Valley Wholesale Nursery and Green Spot (26-1629, 26-1631, 26-1632). Each gets two more years, through 2028, and new federal contract terms, with no added money. Denver Parks and Recreation "may be utilizing grant funds to purchase trees," and federal grants require that language, the request for SuperTrees says. That agreement's limit is $3 million.

Parks, Art and Culture, 10:30 a.m. (agenda)

  • A $16.49 million design contract with David Owen Tryba Architects, 26-1621, and new golf and Denver Mountain Parks fee schedules, 26-1651 and 26-1652. All three are in our Long Bill story.

Governance and Intergovernmental Relations, 10:30 a.m. (agenda)

  • New: A $671,863 contract with Tablet Command Inc., through June 2031, for incident management software used by the Denver Fire Department, 26-1620. According to the request, commanders use it to see incident details, hydrant locations and dispatcher notes in real time, assign units on a live map and track checklists, with actions logged automatically. It connects to the city's computer-aided dispatch system.
  • New: Four mayoral appointments and reappointments to the West Colfax Business Improvement District board, 26-1623 through 26-1626. These are on the consent list.

Community Planning and Housing, 1:30 p.m. (agenda)

  • A bill moving review of residential historic preservation tax credit applications from the Landmark Preservation Commission to city planning staff, 26-1627. Our story.

Wednesday, Nov. 4

  • An $11.2 million addition to a contract with Touchstone IQ, 26-1619, in our Long Bill story.
  • New: Two revocations of old permits that let private structures sit in the public right-of-way. 26-1636 revokes a 2006 permit for Exempla St. Joseph Hospital's enclosed pedestrian bridge over North Franklin Street between East 18th and 19th avenues. 26-1637 revokes a 2015 permit for The Bike Hub's bike station building and utility lines at 1800 16th St., near Union Station. Both are in District 10. The request forms do not give a reason for either revocation.

The South Platte River Committee is also on the calendar for Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.; no agenda items were posted as of Sunday.
